In 2018, a New Jersey woman named Kate McClure ran out of gas late at night on a highway. A homeless veteran, Johnny Bobbitt Jr., saw her stranded and used his last $20 to buy her fuel so she could get home safely. He didn’t ask for anything in return—he just wanted to make sure she wasn’t in danger.
Deeply moved, Kate and her partner started a fundraiser to help Johnny rebuild his life. The story went viral, and thousands of people donated. Although later events around the fundraiser became complicated, Johnny’s original act remains a genuine moment of selfless kindness—a man with almost nothing giving the little he had to help a stranger in need.
