The Silver Surfer is Marvel's most underused cosmic character 🌌
⠀
The Silver Surfer, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for Fantastic Four #48 in 1966, is one of Marvel's most philosophically complex characters. Originally introduced as the herald of the world devouring Galactus, the Surfer's storyline of choosing to defy his master to save Earth became one of the most quoted morality plays in comic book history.
⠀
The 2007 live action film Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer used Doug Jones in a practical silver bodysuit for the on set performance, with Laurence Fishburne providing the voice in post production. The character is set to return to mainstream cinema in Fantastic Four First Steps (2025) with Julia Garner cast as Shalla-Bal, the Silver Surfer of Earth-828 in the new MCU continuity, finally bringing the cosmic character back into mainstream Marvel filmmaking after almost 2 decades.
⠀
Casted in: Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer, The Fantastic Four First Steps, Marvel comics, animated series appearances
Year: 1966-present (character)
Ratings: One of Marvel's most acclaimed cosmic characters, set for a major MCU comeback in 2025
